Our newest toy – the Mecalac MCR-10 Skid-Excavator
This past winter we took the plunge and purchased a Mecalac MCR-10 Skid-Excavator. While the obvious reason to make this purchase is to provide our customers with more efficient and more precise excavation capabilities, we have to admit that this new machine is, well, fun to operate.
After doing quite a bit of research on available excavators within our budget, the decision to purchase the Mecalac became an easy one. “This machine is light years ahead of anything available on the US Market today”, said Engineered Septic & Sewer owner David Acheychek. “With the flick of a switch, it will convert from excavator to skid steer loader to grader. It’s a truly versatile piece of equipment which allows me and my crew to easily and quickly adapt to changing requirements on the job site.”
Manufactured by the French company Mecalac, the MCR is in fact two high- performance machines in one: an excavator and a loader. It goes 2-3 times faster than any other mini-excavator on the market (6.2 mph – blinding speed in the excavator space!) yet can carry up to 50% of its own weight in load capacity. And it can rotate 360° while carrying these loads.
“We’ve all watched excavation jobs – repositioning equipment, if we’re being honest, can be a bit like watching paint dry. This machine allows us to get through all that quicker than anyone in the business now; we can spend time thinking about how to do things the right way without feeling rushed,” said Acheychek.
Another time-saver with the MCR-10 is Its CONNECT quick coupling system which allows switching from digging to grading attachments in seconds. Additionally, auxiliary hydraulics enable standard hydraulic attachments. Another benefit – smaller machine footprint.
“We can now work in the tighter spaces you find in Old Saybrook shoreline cottages where we install new septic systems, for example, because of the compact radius of this machine,” said Acheychek. “But we don’t really lose any of the digging or lifting power we need to work effectively.”
